DIY $2 Self-Watering Garden Bed – Only Requires Water Once Every 2-4 Weeks...

Self wicking garden beds are a unique and increasingly popular way to grow vegetables. They are self-contained raised garden beds with built-in water reservoirs at the bottom. These supply water to the plants from the bottom up – changing how often, and how much, you water your beds.

And although there are some really good off the shelf solutions, this little project was made from all recycled materials including wood pallets, scrap PVC pipes, donated soil, burlap, political signs (because, why not), and a $2 plastic tarp. It takes around 30 minutes to build. More importantly for those of us that like to keep things simple, it only requires watering once every 2-4 weeks…

…and if you wanted to help improve the growth rate & overall health of your plants, you could also introduce some worm compost tea into the water reservoir so the nutrients & beneficial microbes are also drawn up into the bed to help feed your vegetables.

If you like this idea, be sure to share it with your friends and inspire someone you know. Anything becomes possible with just a little inspiration…
