Here’s how to make a non-compressor based “5 gallon bucket” air conditioner. A very simple DIY. The items needed include: a bucket, styrofoam liner, pvc pipe, small fan, and ice. A small solar panel is also optional if you want to power it using solar.
One frozen gallon jug of water inside the bucket lasted 6 hours and the temperature in house was 84F. When cooled the air was in the mid. 40F range.
An additional idea is that instead of using a milk gallon, you can fill metal coffee cans with water and freeze them. One fits perfectly down into the bucket liner and the metal can does a better job of transmitting the cold than a plastic milk gallon. They are nearly the same in mass when complete but the coffee cans are stack-able and I was able to fit more into my freezer at the same. Check it out below…
