Andrew Martin once worked in the finance industry, but after leaving that life, he and his wife Beth moved to New Zealand and developed an amazing permaculture property in just 3 years! Andrew says he felt a void in his life, like there was something missing in big cities, and when he moved out to the farm, he says he felt an instant connection and satisfaction in nature.
They have 5 acres planted with hundreds of fruit trees and a wide variety of vegetables. The initial garden was planted via sheet mulching. This involved placing down cardboard in the outline of their garden directly on the lawn. Followed by manure, food scraps and then placing straw on the top. The plants were then planted straight into the straw – that is no digging or tilling of the initial garden was required.
